I don’t know who needs to hear this today, but stop postponing your happiness!!!!
Because let’s be honest, how many times have we said things like, “Oh, when I finally have money, I’ll buy that dress,” or “When I move into my own place, then I’ll get that decor piece” or “When life finally settles down, then I’ll do this or that”? Be honest. How many times?
I was having a conversation recently, and something just clicked for me. Sometimes we treat happiness like it’s some grand prize waiting at the end of a marathon. Like life is this big competition, and once we tick all the right boxes—career, relationship, finances, perfect home, peace of mind—then and only then, we can finally start enjoying ourselves. But you and I know life doesn’t always play out that way. Sometimes you tick one box and five others scatter 😂😂😂 life knows how to show or remind you who is BOSS!Because tell me why you move one step forward and life decides to drag you back two!!! SMH
So what now? Will you keep postponing happiness until all the stars align? You’ll just be waiting forever, my dear. And life will keep passing you by.
I mean, don’t get me wrong, delayed gratification is a real thing. There’s wisdom in planning and saving and building the life you want. But delayed gratification doesn’t mean delayed living. 🙄🙄🙄 You can plan for your tomorrow while still enjoying today. You can be wise with your spending but still treat yourself to something small that makes you smile( like how I got a new wig despite the plenty bills we had to cover and still covering this month😂😂) You can be working towards a big goal but still celebrate the little joys along the way.
Because let’s be real, if you’re waiting for life to be perfect before you start living, you’ll wait forever o! Wahala no dey finish. And what happens if you finally arrive at that “perfect life” and you realize you don’t even know how to enjoy it because you’ve spent so long putting your joy on hold?
So, please, buy the dress (if you can afford it). Start the skincare routine (even if your bathroom lighting is bad). Dance to your favorite song in your tiny room. Get the pizza you have been craving. Get the wig even if you have no where to rock it too, like me. Smile at the version of yourself that is still figuring life out. Be present in your now. Let joy find you where you are, not where you think you should be.
Because happiness is not a destination, it’s the journey. It’s in the days where nothing seems to be working out but your favorite song comes on shuffle and you smile. It’s in the morning you take your skincare seriously, even when your life feels chaotic. It’s in the morning when it’s raining but your eyebrows are perfect. It’s in choosing to see beauty even in the mess.
I know life feels like “when I finally…” but what about “right now I can…”? Happiness is not waiting for you somewhere in the future—it’s here, right now, in the little things, in the everyday moments.
Okay, that’s my TED Talk for today 😂
Sending you love and light. Go find something small to be happy about today.
